She believes the best treatment comes from a collaborative approach. Thus, she created a community of top-notch mental health professionals working together in a shared space. Some families enable the loved one and some dysfunctional family relationships contribute to the development of the addiction. Because addiction involves and touches everyone in a family, at Friendly House we have family groups that integrate loved ones into the treatment process. We also believe it is our responsibility as treatment providers and community leaders to address racial inequities and health disparities by offering value-based, culturally responsive substance use disorder treatment. Friendly House’s Parent Education and Drug Prevention strengthens family bonds and improves family management, interaction and communication, while providing parents with the skills to speak with their children about alcohol and drug use.

Heroin, marijuana, prescription pain relievers and cocaine are widely abused in Los Angeles. Over 130,000 people in the city struggle with addiction to drugs or alcohol. Many residential rehab facilities in the area can provide long-term care. The best way to find the right treatment option is to speak with a professional. Peggy Albrecht Friendly House treats alcoholism, opioid addiction, drug addiction, and co-occurring mental health issues. Their methods involve a blend of individual counseling, group sessions, and life skills development, all within inpatient and residential care settings.

Composting is the practice of allowing organic waste, like food and yard scraps, to decompose rather than throwing it in the trash. "The mixture that results from this process is called compost and it can be used as fertilizer when gardening," says Brooks. Adding compost to your soil has many benefits, including reducing soil erosion, improving soil structure, and increasing the population of good microorganisms. Families who crave the Beverly Hills lifestyle will need a trusted real estate agent who knows the area.

As our Admissions Manager she uses this knowledge to connect with women and provide a safe space to begin their healing. Her dedication has been fueled by starting her own journey in sobriety at 19. Having this personal experience, Rachel is able to understand the courage it takes to reach out for help. Kaley is the Director of Operations at Friendly House managing the day to day functionality of the facility. A British native, and alumnus of Friendly House, she has a profound love and respect for the program and its mission. In 2014, Kaley began working in the field of recovery specializing in helping women suffering from alcohol and drug addiction.

I have been clean and sober for 32 years from heroin and cocaine addiction. My mission is to preserve Friendly model and expand its reach to make recovery accessible to women of all shapes, ages, and ability. I was very close to the late Executive Director, Peggy Albrecht, the major reason for my affiliation from 2011 to present. This position has chosen me, equipping my soul with a sense of duty to honor the founders and continue the mission. Women in need should have a safe place to go so that they may find a sense of purpose.

I know how important it is to have access to good care by committed providers. If not for those women who came before me I would not be the woman I am today. I’m grateful for this opportunity so serve and give back what was freely given to me. I had heard of the miraculous stories of sustained sobriety from a multitude of Peggy Albrecht Friendly House alumni for over 22 years. However, I began my personal association with Peggy Albrecht Friendly House about 9 years ago after losing both of my brothers to the disease of alcoholism and addiction.

Growing plants native to your area is easier on you and the environment. "Native plants have co-evolved alongside local wildlife and provide critical ecological functions," says Brooks. "They have adapted to thrive in certain conditions, and placing the right species in a suitable location will eliminate the need for excess fertilizer, soil amendments, and watering."

One place that bears witness to those gains every day is Friendly House in Los Angeles. It’s the very first women’s residential recovery home in the world and has treated more than 50,000 women since 1951. Being the oldest woman’s rehabilitation facility in the world, I would love to see us grow and stand out among the big institutions out there.

As a sober person myself, I know how important it is to support our community and to give others the help I was given. Working with Peggy Albrecht Friendly House allows me to be of service for not just a cause but directly with women that I believe in. Dr. Patrick lockwood grew up in a small southern missouri town, enculturated with classical southern and midwestern values like honesty, integrity, and the “neighborly” way of relating to people.

The mission of Friendly House is to provide women seeking recovery from alcohol and other substance use disorders with a safe, structured and supportive home-like environment that fosters recovery, personal growth and civic responsibility. As a community-based non-profit organization, our commitment is to extend a helping hand to every qualified applicant who sincerely desires recovery.Providing a Unique Rehabilitative ExperienceThe program is comprised of three phases. Rachel is the Admissions Manager at Friendly House and is responsible for overseeing all areas related to Admissions.

Using a rain barrel allows you to make the most of rainwater and conserve it for other uses. "A rain barrel helps reduce flooding and protects the landscape from runoff," says Funk. "Collecting rainwater is also an excellent way to prepare for droughts or dry spells. Watering your garden with rainwater is a highly effective way to make your gardening practices more sustainable."

Bea raised money to support the house from friends in the community. Contributions were raised on a month-to-month basis – even day to day. Growing ground covers, like stonecrop, creeping thyme, and dichondra, in place of grass is a great way to make your garden more sustainable. "Ground covers help prevent soil erosion and minimize evaporation from the soil surface, helping to retain moisture," says Kelly Funk, President Jackson & Perkins. "Ground covers can also suppress weeds as they form a dense cover on the soil." Additionally, ground covers provide habitat and food sources for wildlife and beneficial pollinators.
